Mar's project is about inferring species diversification, extant genetic diversity and distributional patterns of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Mar studies the macroevolutionary drivers of extant distributional patterns along altitude and latitude, and tests competing hypotheses for understanding parapatric speciation along tropical mountain ranges. The work is part of a bilateral project along with partners at the University of Campinas, Brazil (Prof. André Freitas' team).
