Vojtěch Novotný a new member of Academia Europaea

Professor Vojtěch Novotný, Head of Department of Ecology, Biology Centre CAS, was elected a member of Academia Europea, the European non-governmental independent learned society. Professor Novotný became a member of the Section Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.

Academia Europaea was founded in 1988 as an international, nongovernmental association of individual scientists and scholars from all disciplines, who are experts and leaders in their own subject areas as recognised by their peers. It has got 3800 members, amongst them are seventy-two Nobel Laureates. The object of Academia Europaea is the advancement and propagation of excellence in scholarship in the humanities, law, the economic, social, and political sciences, mathematics, medicine, and all branches of natural and technological sciences anywhere in the world for the public benefit and for the advancement of the education of the public of all ages in the aforesaid subjects in Europe.

In the Academia Europaea, there are 24 scientists from the Czech Republic. In the section of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Professor Vojtech Novotný is the only Czech.
