Host specificity and species diversity of insect herbivores in tropical rainforests
The study of host specialisation in herbivorous communities feeding on rainforest trees is focused on its importance in maintaining the extraordinary species diversity found in tropical communities, the impact of herbivores on species diversity and dynamics of vegetation, and the evolution of insect-plant interactions in rainforests. We maintain a permanent research station in Papua New Guinea, our principal study area. PI: V. Novotný more..

Ecology and conservation of butterflies in Central Europe
Our research includes population ecology of critically endangered species and their population management plans, ecology of endemic montane Erebia species, and the composition of butterfly communities in anthropogenic habitats and their conservation importance. PI: M. Konvička
