Postdoc opportunities in our lab

I am looking for an enthusiastic postdoc to join our group and develop new lines of basic or applied research on various consequences of anthropogenic stressors on freshwater biota.

Our group expertise covers laboratory experiments on individual behaviour (using Noldus Ethovision), physiology (with emphasis on respirometry) and trophic interactions. We alse run outdoor experiments in heated mesocosms to examine the responses of whole communities to anthropogenic stressors including climate change, various pollutants and invasive species. We also use mathematical models to study various dynamic phenomena from predator-prey interactions to community assembly. This means you will be able to expand your toolkit (depending on your previous background) and develop a more holistic approach in your future research.

Our group is multinational and regularly publishes in leading journals (e.g. Ecology Letters, Global Change Biology, Journal of Animal Ecology). The campus offers access to many other research groups and facilities, and we actively collaborate with multiple research groups in the Czech Republic and across Europe. The group is hosted at the Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia and Institute of Entomology, Biology Centre CAS, Czech Republic. The campus and all research facilities are in Ceske Budejovice, a relaxed city with ca 100,000 inhabitants within easy reach of Prague and Vienna. Overall costs of living here are much lower than in many west European countries and also considerably lower than in Prague.

Possible funding sources include the Marie Curie Individual Postdoc Fellowships (next deadline on 14 September 2022) and a postdoc position funded by the University of South Bohemia (next deadline on 31 August 2022). Both calls are open to applicants from all countries and the positions are fully funded for 12-24 months. The Marie Curie fellowships are highly competitive but they offer an unprecedented combination of absolute freedom in the research agenda and extremely good financial conditions - the scholarship is substantially higher than a full professorship salary and would enable you to lead a very comfortable life in Czechia.<\p> For more information please contact me at dboukal@prf.jcu.cz or boukal@entu.cas.cz.
